Our Sustainability Promise
At Holiday Inn Aberdeen West, we recognise the influence and impact that our business has on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to sustainability and to minimising our environmental footprint, while enhancing the wellbeing of our guests, employees and local communities. We are supported in this journey by our sustainability accreditation partner, Green Tourism.
Supporting Our Community
At Holiday Inn Aberdeen West, we are dedicated to supporting our local community through meaningful initiatives. Last Christmas, we acted as a drop-off point for ‘Cash for Kids’, helping provide gifts to children in need. We proudly support ‘SensationALL’, donating raffle prizes and hosting parties for the children they work with.
Unclaimed lost property is given to the rag bag deposit at the local primary school in the Aberdeen area, promoting reuse and fundraising efforts. Our commitment to charitable giving extends to raising funds for Team Luke, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need, and Comic Relief, reinforcing our dedication to making a positive impact both locally and beyond.
Environmental Initiatives
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through sustainable initiatives. Over 50% of our lighting is LED, with automatic sensors ensuring lights are only on when needed. Energy efficiency is further supported by auto-closing doors and regular window seal inspections and replacements to maintain insulation. Our outdoor spaces contribute to biodiversity, featuring planted flowers, greenery, and a wildlife house.
We have also adopted eco-friendly practices by using reusable glass water bottles, paper straws, and paraben-free, organic toiletries free from unsustainable palm oil. To address climate change, we have completed a climate change risk assessment, developed adaptation strategies, and actively monitor and publish our carbon reduction targets.
Our Team
We ensure that sustainability is embedded in our team culture through comprehensive training for all staff. This training is delivered via a central system, allowing team members to stay up to date with the latest sustainability practices at all times. To further our commitment, we have appointed a social media champion to promote our initiatives and engage both staff and guests.
Additionally, our cycle-to-work scheme encourages environmentally friendly commuting, supporting both sustainability and team wellbeing.
Guest Support
At Holiday Inn Aberdeen West, we encourage guests to join us in our sustainability efforts. A sustainability poster is on display to highlight our green initiatives, and door hangers provide easy ways for guests to reduce their environmental impact during their stay. We actively promote local attractions, including the Westhill Farmers Market, to support the community and local businesses. For eco-friendly travel, public transport information is available both on our website and at reception, and EV chargers are conveniently provided on-site for electric vehicle users.
